Yesterday Josh Dyson published an excellent piece on Fahrenheit 451, “Freedom in the Fire,” so I thought today would be a good day to share my Book Blurb on the novel as well.
I finally got around to reading this book last summer, and I realize I should have done so much sooner. It has features of character development that could be better, but Bradbury’s portrayal of Guy Montag’s world is eerily and chillingly prophetic in many ways. Ideas and thought are dangerous, and books more than any other medium convey ideas in a way that changes people. In a culture where reading is becoming less and less prevalent, Bradbury’s vision of the future could all too easily become our present if we don’t correct our mindsets. Definitely worth reading.
